2023 Pilgrimage to Heal our Communities
In 2023 we joined the Pilgrimage to HEAL our communities, organized by the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, the Dignity Not Detention coalition, and local community organizations. We joined to support our detained community members, call for the END of detention, and heard directly from friends who have been detained. This statewide pilgrimage included stops in Bakersfield, Adelanto, Calexico, and San Diego.
2022 Kern Immigrant’s Rights Conference: Step into Action!
The 2022 Kern IR conference was a success! We were able to provide updates about the continued immigration challenges on the national, state, and local level- specifically how it affects the Kern. Among the topics we discussed were the national appetite to move immigration reform forward and how, despite the approval of pro-immigrant laws in CA, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to detain our immigrant community to populate its detention centers; we also discussed about the “border crisis” and where people can access immigration legal service for families in removal proceedings; youth and community advocates shared their testimonies and what they are doing to ensure that Kern becomes a immigrant friendly community- where we welcome and support everyone!
